1.1. Farmers Training on Sustainable Harvesting
As part of the NEDA National Innovation Grant 2024 project titled “From Farm to Market: Cocreating
the Cinnamon Industry in the Philippines,” the Research Institute for Tropical Biology and
Pharmacological Biotechnology (RITBPB) of Cebu Normal University has successfully conducted a
series of impactful activities in collaboration with 15 San Antonio Farmers Association in Boljoon
headed by its president Mr. Johnie Cairo.
Farmers’ Training
Farmers from the San Antonio community received valuable training on the sustainable and
innovative harvesting of Cinnamomum mindanaense bark, leaves, and oil (locally known as
“Mana”), a resource that grows abundantly in the area. The training focused on protecting the
resource while maximizing its potential for long-term benefits.
