Members of the San Antonio Farmers Association participated in a training session
focusing on the sustainable harvesting of Cinnamomum mindanaense bark, oil, and
leaves. This training introduced best practices for ensuring the regeneration of cinnamon
trees while maximizing yield, promoting long-term sustainability of the local cinnamon
resource.
A skills enhancement workshop was conducted for farmers to learn the production of
Cinnamon-based products which was facilitated by faculty members from the TLE
Department who are also affiliate researchers of the project. Participants performed
return demonstrations to ensure mastery of the skills. This hands-on training has
empowered farmers to explore product innovation and new livelihood opportunities
using their cinnamon resources.
A stakeholders meeting was held, during which members of the San Antonio Farmers
Association actively participated in the development of policies for the sustainable
management, utilization, and marketing of their cinnamon resources. This session,
facilitated by a legal expert who is also a key member of the project, emphasizing
responsible harvesting, value-added processing, and collective marketing strategies.
A specialized training workshop was conducted to develop Cinnamon-based
educational materials and cultural presentations aimed at enhancing the awareness,
knowledge, and attitudes of the broader community toward the cinnamon industry.
Participated in by CNU faculty experts in instructional materials and cultural
presentations, the workshop focused on creating engaging resources for schools,
community organizations, and local stakeholders. These educational materials and
presentations will serve to foster a deeper appreciation for cinnamon as a valuable
natural resource while promoting its sustainable use within the community and beyond.
